POSITION SUMMARY 
The Assistant Program Instructor is primarily responsible for providing quality assistance and support to sports programs and events while maintaining a safe, non-competitive environment for YMCA participants and members. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 
∙ At least 16 years of age 
∙ Ability to communicate effectively with sports coaches, staff and parents of youth sports participants 
∙ Organizational and human relations skills in order to provide adequate support to sports programs
∙ Basic knowledge of the phases of physical education for all age groups served 
∙ Ability to visually inspect participation space and equipment for safety 
∙ Current certifications in First Aid, Safety & Risk Management, Child Abuse Prevention and New Employee Orientation or the ability to obtain within 90 days of employment 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 
1. Assist with the supervision of participants during programs in order to ensure safety.
2. Introduce yourself and make efforts to recognize participants/members on subsequent visits.
3. Create a motivating environment that is friendly and non-competitive. 
4. Assist in the set-up and take down of equipment/sports sites as needed. 
5. Be attentive, enthusiastic, and ready to assist sports staff/participants. 
6. Provide positive feedback to participants as appropriate. 
7. Provide safe programs and environment for all participants, volunteers and staff.
8. Be a positive role model and conduct self in accordance with the YMCA Mission.
9. Incorporate and encourage the use of the YMCA core values. 
10. Attend scheduled department meetings and training/clinics offered. 
11. Assist with other projects or activities as needed. 
12. Assist with the supervision of the youth sports site, by making sure that all participants are in the designated areas. 
13. Possess/acquire knowledge of all aspects of the particular sports league, which includes teams, coaches, rosters, schedules, pictures, awards, etc. 
14. Maintain a clean work site, which includes picking up trash, vacuuming etc.
15. Maintain, observe and inspect equipment and facilities on a regular basis and inform supervisor of concerns. 
16. May assist in leading youth sports clinics or assisting in coaching youth sports.
17. Prepare all sports sites for practice and games (i.e. lining fields, setting bases, setting goals and preparing equipment for use and distributing equipment).

Assists the Aquatic Director by providing excellent service to members in a safe, enjoyable, and positive environment that promotes member wellness and engagement in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Assists in recruiting, training, developing, scheduling, and coordinating personnel and volunteers. Assists in reviewing and evaluating staff performance.
• Schedules lifeguards and ensures all shifts are covered by staff. Fills in as needed. 
• Provides leadership to lifeguards, swim instructors and water exercise instructors.
• Ensures the safety of members and program participants.
• Knows, understands, and consistently applies safety rules, policies, and guidelines for the pool and aquatics area.

Certified Personal Trainers
The Kokomo YMCA is looking to hire Certified Personal Trainers. Assist with helping members learn to be healthy while they increase their self-esteem and learn life skills such as goal setting and consistency. 

Position Summary:

Under the supervision of the Healthy Living Director and Head Personal Trainer, the Personal Trainer is responsible for providing effective and efficient service to health seekers. Maintain a professional attitude when assisting clients. Make every effort to assist them in attaining their health and wellness goals. Develop and implement Y signature in Healthy Living programs. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

a. Promote program and membership enrollment in interactions with existing and potential members.
b. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations to improve health and wellness.
c. Design safe and effective 30 minute to 1 hour personal training programs for individual clients,
d. adapting the strength training program to each person’s specific needs and abilities
e. Teach members proper and preferred use of all strength equipment
f. Provide individual supervision and enforcement during member’s training sessions
g. Assists in the development of member progress reports and wellness programs.

Practice preventative lifeguarding by following and enforcing pool rules and policies, and completing a routine check of pool and deck area. 
Engage in positive public relations with participants. .
Wear appropriate uniform while on duty, as outlined in the uniform guidelines.
Perform rescues and emergency procedures in accordance with facility policies.
Attend all trainings, staff meetings and assigned guard drills.
Check and record water temperature and chemical levels on a regular basis and notify supervisor of any irregularities.
Keep accurate records/statistics daily, including documentation of pool usage.
Document and report all accidents/incidents to supervisor immediately. 
Perform all maintenance as assigned.
Ensure safety during inclement weather situations and follow YMCA Aquatic Standards.

This position offers competitive pay and supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. Helps with the maintenance and improvement operations of the YMCA facilities and vehicles, including preventive maintenance and related budgets. 

Essential Functions:

1) Helps Director with facility maintenance, including planning and developing preventative maintenance.
2) Ensures the proper operation of all systems.
3) Completes repair work in a timely manner.
4) Works with outside agencies such as fire, health, building depts., etc. to ensure compliance with all local, state and federal regulations related to facilities and grounds.
5) Supports the preventative and annual maintenance plans and monitors expenditures against budget.
6) Models relationship-building skills in all interactions.
7) Participates with other members and staff in the YMCA's fundraising campaign.
8) Ensures that assigned vehicles (and other equipment) are maintained and operated in accordance with the policies and procedures of the YMCA.

Qualifications:

1) One or more years experience in facility maintenance or closely related field. 
2) Working knowledge of mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems, carpentry, and other maintenance-related fields. 
3) CPR, First Aid and AED certifications required within 30 days of employment, unless otherwise specified.
4) "POOL" and booker certifications required within 120 days employment, unless otherwise specified.
5) Ability and current license to drive with record that meets YMCA standards.

b. Be responsible for the safety of the children at all times and carry out emergency procedures when necessary; continually interacts with the children and with parents as they enter and leave the program area (includes greeting parents immediately upon their arrival.) 
c. Adheres to and maintains the cleaning schedule; monitors usage of the sign in/sign out sheets, ensuring all parents are signing in and out properly.  
d. Professionally handles any conflict or emergency situation that may arise with members or staff; Reports all concerns or problems to Supervisor.

POSITION SUMMARY:

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The YMCA of Kokomo is seeking part-time Summer STEM Day Camp Counselors who are enthusiastic, energetic, and compassionate with a strong desire to positively impact the lives of young children. Under the supervision of the Summer STEM Director, the Summer STEM Counselor leads fun, enriching activities for school-age children participating in summer day camp at beautiful Camp Tycony.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Plans and implements curriculum within the established guidelines.
• Nurtures children through purposeful programming dedicated to building achievement and belonging in youth and relationships among youth and within families.
• Supervises the children attending Summer STEM Camp, and all activities including ADA accommodations where appropriate. Follows all procedures and standards.
• Makes ongoing, systematic observations and evaluations of each child.
• Cultivates positive relationships, and maintains effective communication with parents. 
• Maintains program site and equipment.
