POSITION SUMMARY 
The Assistant Program Instructor is primarily responsible for providing quality assistance and support to sports programs and events while maintaining a safe, non-competitive environment for YMCA participants and members. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 
∙ At least 16 years of age 
∙ Ability to communicate effectively with sports coaches, staff and parents of youth sports participants 
∙ Organizational and human relations skills in order to provide adequate support to sports programs
∙ Basic knowledge of the phases of physical education for all age groups served 
∙ Ability to visually inspect participation space and equipment for safety 
∙ Current certifications in First Aid, Safety & Risk Management, Child Abuse Prevention and New Employee Orientation or the ability to obtain within 90 days of employment 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 
1. Assist with the supervision of participants during programs in order to ensure safety.
2. Introduce yourself and make efforts to recognize participants/members on subsequent visits.
3. Create a motivating environment that is friendly and non-competitive. 
4. Assist in the set-up and take down of equipment/sports sites as needed. 
5. Be attentive, enthusiastic, and ready to assist sports staff/participants. 
6. Provide positive feedback to participants as appropriate. 
7. Provide safe programs and environment for all participants, volunteers and staff.
8. Be a positive role model and conduct self in accordance with the YMCA Mission.
9. Incorporate and encourage the use of the YMCA core values. 
10. Attend scheduled department meetings and training/clinics offered. 
11. Assist with other projects or activities as needed. 
12. Assist with the supervision of the youth sports site, by making sure that all participants are in the designated areas. 
13. Possess/acquire knowledge of all aspects of the particular sports league, which includes teams, coaches, rosters, schedules, pictures, awards, etc. 
14. Maintain a clean work site, which includes picking up trash, vacuuming etc.
15. Maintain, observe and inspect equipment and facilities on a regular basis and inform supervisor of concerns. 
16. May assist in leading youth sports clinics or assisting in coaching youth sports.
17. Prepare all sports sites for practice and games (i.e. lining fields, setting bases, setting goals and preparing equipment for use and distributing equipment).

Certified Personal Trainers
The Kokomo YMCA is looking to hire Certified Personal Trainers. Assist with helping members learn to be healthy while they increase their self-esteem and learn life skills such as goal setting and consistency. 

Position Summary:

Under the supervision of the Healthy Living Director and Head Personal Trainer, the Personal Trainer is responsible for providing effective and efficient service to health seekers. Maintain a professional attitude when assisting clients. Make every effort to assist them in attaining their health and wellness goals. Develop and implement Y signature in Healthy Living programs. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

a. Promote program and membership enrollment in interactions with existing and potential members.
b. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations to improve health and wellness.
c. Design safe and effective 30 minute to 1 hour personal training programs for individual clients,
d. adapting the strength training program to each person’s specific needs and abilities
e. Teach members proper and preferred use of all strength equipment

• Ensure the safety of participants by eliminating/reducing hazards and hazardous behavior in aquatic areas. 
• Be a role model by consistently demonstrating a healthy lifestyle and positive attitude towards the YMCA.
• Maintain accurate record of hours worked and be responsible for finding substitutes for absences.
• Practice preventative lifeguarding by following and enforcing pool rules and policies, and completing a routine check of pool and deck area. 
• Engage in positive public relations with participants. .
• Wear appropriate uniform while on duty, as outlined in the uniform guidelines.
• Perform rescues and emergency procedures in accordance with facility policies.
• Attend all trainings, staff meetings and assigned guard drills.
• Check and record water temperature and chemical levels on a regular basis and notify supervisor of any irregularities.
• Keep accurate records/statistics daily, including documentation of pool usage.
• Document and report all accidents/incidents to supervisor immediately. 
• Perform all maintenance as assigned.

This position offers competitive pay and supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. Helps with the maintenance and improvement operations of the YMCA facilities and vehicles, including preventive maintenance and related budgets. 

Essential Functions:

1) Helps Director with facility maintenance, including planning and developing preventative maintenance.
2) Ensures the proper operation of all systems.
3) Completes repair work in a timely manner.
4) Works with outside agencies such as fire, health, building depts., etc. to ensure compliance with all local, state and federal regulations related to facilities and grounds.
5) Supports the preventative and annual maintenance plans and monitors expenditures against budget.
6) Models relationship-building skills in all interactions.
7) Participates with other members and staff in the YMCA's fundraising campaign.
8) Ensures that assigned vehicles (and other equipment) are maintained and operated in accordance with the policies and procedures of the YMCA.

4) "POOL" and booker certifications required within 120 days employment, unless otherwise specified.
5) Ability and current license to drive with record that meets YMCA standards.

Out of School Time Instructor
Out of School Time Instructor

POSITION SUMMARY: 
The Out of School Time Instructor is responsible for the care of the children in the YMCA’s Before and After School programs; ensuring a healthy, safe, and nurturing environment. He/she will foster children’s social, physical, spiritual, and mental growth, and demonstrate the core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility and will interact positively with parents to develop a trusting relationship. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 
a. Assist in providing a quality environment in OST, taking into consideration the needs of each child and the goals and objectives of the YMCA; provide positive interaction with children, parents and staff using the core values as guidelines. 
b. Be responsible for the safety of the children at all times and carry out emergency procedures when necessary; continually interacts with the children and with parents as they enter and leave the program area (includes greeting parents immediately upon their arrival.) 
c. Adheres to and maintains the cleaning schedule; monitors usage of the sign in/sign out sheets, ensuring all parents are signing in and out properly.  
d. Professionally handles any conflict or emergency situation that may arise with members or staff; Reports all concerns or problems to Supervisor. 
e. Shows flexibility in working where needed as numbers of children fluctuate.
f. Attends all staff meetings and in-service trainings under the direction of the Supervisor. Required child care trainings including acquiring minimum training hours according to the YMCA Training Ladder and ensure staff meets same requirements.
g. All other duties assigned as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS: 
a. Must be at least 18 years old with high school diploma or equivalent and have an understanding and knowledge of children, their behavior and development. 
b. Knowledge in age-appropriate activities and the ability to lead group activities.
c. Ability to use age-appropriate behavior management techniques according to YMCA guidelines.
d. Warm and friendly personality and have the willingness to interact and play with children.
e. Understands and accepts the YMCA’s goals and values. 
f. Supervises Out of School Time participants in order to ensure safety and provide caring, nurturing environment. 
g. Maintain current certifications in CPR, AED, First Aid, Safety & Risk Management, Child Abuse Prevention, New Employee Orientation, or the ability to obtain post hire. 
h. Ability to acquire minimum training hours according to the YMCA Training Ladder.

Play & Learn Center Program Aide
Play & Learn Center Program Aide: Part-time Hourly

The Program Aide will be responsible for the care of the children in Play & Learn; ensuring a healthy, safe, and nurturing environment. Swim Team Coach

Job Title: Swim Team Coach

POSITION SUMMARY:

Responsible for planning and conducting practices according to YMCA and Red Cross guidelines and to help people learn to be safe when they are in, on or around water. To always ensure the safety of class participants while coaching and to promote the four core values of the YMCA.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Represent the YMCA’s four core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.
• Be familiar with course materials and know how to use them effectively.
• Create a non-threatening environment encouraging participants to meet course objectives.
• Must be cheerful, energetic, and emotionally present and must be a good listener and communicator.
• Must be willing and able to train an assistant swim instructor.
• Cover all material required in a course.
• Ensure that participants meet course completion requirements and receive completion certificate.
• Submit completed course reports to Aquatic Coordinator.
• Attend regular trainings as assigned by Aquatic Coordinator.
• Must maintain an excellent attendance record.

• Current certification in the following is highly recommended:
• American Red Cross or YMCA Lifeguard Training and First Aid
• American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer or equivalent
• WSI or YSI Certification
• Knowledge of child development
• Knowledge of infant and preschool aquatic theory and practice.
• Knowledge of progressive aquatic theory and practice.
• Knowledge of lesson planning, administrative and program operations.
• Knowledge of learning theory, course design and customizing to adults, persons with disabilities and helping participants meet their individual goals and objectives.
