Lifeguard

The YMCA is looking for experienced swim instructors and lifeguards to join the family at the Y. Help the youth of today learn to be healthy while they increase their self-esteem and learn life skills such as goal setting and determination.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the Aquatic Director, Aquatic Coordinator and the Head Lifeguard, the Lifeguard is responsible for providing a safe environment for all participants in and around the pool, which includes responding to emergencies and administering CPR and First Aid effectively.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Ensure the safety of participants by eliminating/reducing hazards and hazardous behavior in aquatic areas. 
Be a role model by consistently demonstrating a healthy lifestyle and positive attitude towards the YMCA.
Maintain accurate record of hours worked and be responsible for finding substitutes for absences.
Practice preventative lifeguarding by following and enforcing pool rules and policies, and completing a routine check of pool and deck area. 
Engage in positive public relations with participants. .
Wear appropriate uniform while on duty, as outlined in the uniform guidelines.
Perform rescues and emergency procedures in accordance with facility policies.
Attend all trainings, staff meetings and assigned guard drills.
Check and record water temperature and chemical levels on a regular basis and notify supervisor of any irregularities.
Keep accurate records/statistics daily, including documentation of pool usage.
Document and report all accidents/incidents to supervisor immediately. 
Perform all maintenance as assigned.
Ensure safety during inclement weather situations and follow YMCA Aquatic Standards.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Must possess and maintain current American Red Cross Lifeguarding certification or equivalent which will include First Aid and CPR for the Professional Rescuer certifications.
Must have the ability to pass the basic Lifeguarding skills test.
Must possess and have the ability to relate to and communicate with people of all ages, cultures and abilities.
Typical requirements within 30 days of hire include completion of: Child Abuse Prevention for Supervisory Staff.
Must have a thorough understanding of facility characteristics, rules, policies, and procedures as stated in current Kokomo Family YMCA Lifeguard Manual.
Must maintain 10 hours of scheduled shifts per week.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Ability to pass the lifeguard physical test.
Must be able to sit or stand for extended periods and remain alert.
Adequate ability to hear noises and distinguish distress signal.
Ability to continuously scan all areas.
Ability to perform strenuous physical tasks necessary for a water rescue and removal of a person from the water to perform first aid.
Ability to communicate verbally, including projecting voice across distance in normal and loud situations.

Lead Swim Instructor

Job Title: Lead Swim Instructor 
Status: Part-time Hourly

POSITION SUMMARY:
Responsible for planning and conducting swim lessons according to YMCA and Red Cross guidelines and to help people learn to be safe when they are in, on or around water. To always ensure the safety of class participants while teaching and to promote the four core values of the YMCA.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Represent the YMCA’s four core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.
Be familiar with course materials and know how to use them effectively.
Create a non-threatening environment encouraging participants to meet course objectives.
Must be cheerful, energetic, and emotionally present and must be a good listener and communicator.
Must be willing and able to train an assistant swim instructor.
Cover all material required in a course
Ensure that participants meet course completion requirements and receive completion certificate.
Submit completed course reports to Aquatic Coordinator.
Attend regular trainings as assigned by Aquatic Coordinator.
Must maintain an excellent attendance record.

Assistant Property Manager
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. Helps with the maintenance and improvement operations of the YMCA facilities and vehicles, including preventive maintenance and related budgets. 

Essential Functions:
1) Helps Director with facility maintenance, including planning and developing preventative maintenance.
2) Ensures the proper operation of all systems.
3) Completes repair work in a timely manner.
4) Works with outside agencies such as fire, health, building depts., etc. to ensure compliance with all local, state and federal regulations related to facilities and grounds.
5) Supports the preventative and annual maintenance plans and monitors expenditures against budget.
6) Models relationship-building skills in all interactions.
7) Participates with other members and staff in the YMCA's fundraising campaign.
8) Ensures that assigned vehicles (and other equipment) are maintained and operated in accordance with the policies and procedures of the YMCA.

Membership Services Representative

POSITION SUMMARY:

Out of School Time Instructors
We are hiring site instructors for our Out of School Time (OST) program at Kokomo Center, Northwestern & Taylor Elementary locations. Instructors will be responsible for overseeing our students, ensuring that they are safe and learning.
Available hours will be between 6 a.m. – 9 a.m. & 3 p.m. – 6 p.m. Applicants must have their high school diploma/GED and be able to complete all required training. Child Care experience or pursuing a degree in a child related field is preferred. Elementary Education or Early Childhood degrees are a great bonus.

Play & Learn Center Program Aide
Play & Learn Center Aide: Part-time Hourly 

POSITION SUMMARY:
 
The Program Aide will be responsible for the care of the children in Play & Learn; ensuring a healthy, safe, and nurturing environment. He/she will foster children’s social, physical, spiritual, and mental growth, and demonstrate the core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility and will interact positively with parents to develop a trusting relationship. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 
a. Assist in providing a quality environment in Play & Learn, taking into consideration the needs of each child and the goals and objectives of the YMCA; provide positive interaction with children, parents and staff using the core values as guidelines. 
b. Be responsible for the safety of the children at all times and carry out emergency procedures when necessary; continually interacts with the children, when in room and parents as they enter and leave the Play & Learn area (includes greeting parents immediately upon their arrival.) 
c. Maintains the diapering and feeding schedules, and infant reports as set forth by Coordinator; adheres to and maintains the cleaning schedule; monitors usage of the sign in/sign out sheets, ensuring all parents are signing in and out properly.  
d. Professionally handles any conflict or emergency situation that may arise with members or staff; Reports all concerns or problems to Supervisor. 
e. Shows flexibility in working where needed as numbers of children fluctuate. f. Attends all staff meetings and in-service trainings under the direction of the Supervisor. Required child care trainings including acquiring minimum training hours according to the YMCA Training Ladder and ensure staff meets same requirements. g. All other duties assigned as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS: 
a. Must be at least 18 years old with high school diploma or equivalent and have an understanding and knowledge of children, their behavior and development. 
b. Knowledge in age-appropriate activities and the ability to lead group activities. c. Ability to use age-appropriate behavior management techniques according to YMCA guidelines. d. YMCA Head Personal Trainer

POSITION SUMMARY:

The YMCA of Kokomo is seeking a qualified individual who will provide leadership and direction to the Personal Training program, contribute to enhancing membership by
attracting and retaining members, increase use of personal training services and engaging in the overall events, campaigns and outreaches of the YMCA. Provide effective and
efficient service to health seekers. Maintain a professional attitude when assisting clients. Make every effort to assist them in attaining their health and wellness goals. Develop and implement Y signature Healthy Living programs.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

a. Assist in the planning, scheduling and evaluation of all personal training programming
b. Assist with hiring, supervising evaluating and coaching the personal training staff.
c. Assist in creating monthly schedule(s) for wellness staff.
d. Assist with events hosted by the YMCA. (I.e. Health fairs, family fun runs, etc.)
e. Continually work in Engage to document member engagements.
a. Educate staff on proper usage of Engage
f. Ensure member satisfaction, profitability and compliance with standards and laws.
g. Monitor activities, and seek innovative ways to enhance program revenue
h. Serve as the point of contact for personal trainers, group exercise instructors, and wellness coaches, and promptly address inquires, problems and complaints.
i. Coordinate administrative functions, such as tracking, reports and schedules
j. Follow emergency procedures and safety precautions. Follow procedures for reporting all accidents, incidents and hazards.
k. Assist in onboarding new members of the Wellness team.
l. Maintain a minimum 10 hours a week in personal training.
m. Stay up-to-date on certifications and latest concepts, trends and techniques
n. Attend mandatory continuing education courses and trainings. Actively participate in designed meetings, training sessions and special events.
o. Continue to develop personal training staff. (trainings, meetings, progress report)
p. Accept additional assignments as deemed appropriate by supervisor, within the scope of the job description.
q. Conduct InBody Assessments based on the guidelines and regulations
r. Monitor Wellness floor to ensure exceptional member experience (I.e. re-engage with members,rack weights, clean machines, remove trash and debris, replenish
towels, log maintenance issues related to equipment, etc…)
s. Maintains Daxko process for redemption and creation of programs
t. Reviews personal training staff 2x/year.

Certified Personal Trainers
The Kokomo YMCA is looking to hire Certified Personal Trainers. Assist with helping members learn to be healthy while they increase their self-esteem and learn life skills such as goal setting and consistency. 

Position Summary:

Under the supervision of the Healthy Living Director and Head Personal Trainer, the Personal Trainer is responsible for providing effective and efficient service to health seekers. Maintain a professional attitude when assisting clients. Make every effort to assist them in attaining their health and wellness goals. Develop and implement Y signature in Healthy Living programs.

c. Design safe and effective 30 minute to 1 hour personal training programs for individual clients,
d. adapting the strength training program to each person’s specific needs and abilities
e. Teach members proper and preferred use of all strength equipment
f. Provide individual supervision and enforcement during member’s training sessions

QUALIFICATIONS:
a. HS Diploma
b. Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience.
c. Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
d. Be a certified personal trainer through National Academy of Sports Medicine
(NASM), American Council on Exercise (ACE), or American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) or other reputable certification organization.
e. Minimum of 1 year Personal Training experience
f. Typical requirements within 30 days of hire include: completion of: Child Abuse Prevention for Supervisory Staff; CPR; First Aid; AED; Bloodborne Pathogens; Personal Trainer Insurance
g. Completion of YMCA program-specific certifications where necessary.

Tobacco Free Howard County Coordinator

Basic Functions and Scope of the Position :
The Tobacco Free Howard County Coordinator will have the responsibility to educate and prevent tobacco use in Howard County. The coordinator directs and coordinates all activities related to the Indiana Tobacco Prevention and Cessation Grant. The coordinator facilitates the Tobacco Free Howard County coalition, advocates for tobacco control initiatives as described by the Grant Work Plan indicators and deliverables. The incumbent works as a facilitator with a variety of social agencies, health providers and professionals, and EAP's in industry, schools, funding and non funding agencies, the media, and city, county and state officals.

Work Performed:
The Tobacco Free Coordinator facilitates the Tobacco Free Howard County coalition, calls meetings, ensures participation by a wide variety of representatives, assisting the coalition in the development and execution of an appropriate work plan. Staffs and facilitates an active coalition. Works in multiple disciplinary areas of tobacco control to facilitate local strategic planning processes and programs that focus on the CDC goals for a comprehensive tobacco control program (prevention, cessation, secondhand smoke and identifying/eliminating disparities) through , but not limited to, strategies as advocacy, and capacity building. Responsible for managing the application for grant funding, including budget, and ensuring participation, ensuring that all reporting is complete in a timely manner in accordance with grant requirements. Responsible for developing and teaching an effective smoking cessation program, my involve other staff in providing these services and may train other facilitators of these programs. Responsible to work with the Youth Service coordinator to create an ongoing creative chapter in each school district to fulfill grant requirements.

Qualifications: 
Bachelors degree and one year experience in public health related field or public relations. Any combination of education and experience that demonstrate the ability, skills and knowledge to perform the duties.

Experience: 
Public health or Public relations (1-3 years) 

Skills and Abilities: 
Computer skills, organizational skills, public speaking skills,language skills, administrative skills including leading a group of coalition members. Ability to interface well with citizens, fellow employees, and city and county and state officials. Must be self motivated. Must have dependable transportation - occasional overnight travel required. Must have excellent writing and communication skills, database management/record keeping Ability to complete assigned projects with a minimal amount of direct supervision . Ability to work and complete assignments with team members. Granting writing experience is a plus. Ability to work within a set budget and understand some accounting. Must be tobacco free.

Specialized Knowledge:
Knowledge of program planning, methods, and quality improvement Demonstrate respect and sensitivity for cultural diversity. Strong familiarity with tobacco control; partnership building and grant writing

Training requirements and Timelines: 
Attend required training (TPC), education programs and/or in service trainings, and conferences. Attendance of Kokomo YMCA leadership meetings. Observes agency guidelines/standards/expectations in compliance to Kokomo YMCA policy manual. No occasions of unauthorized overtime . Current Indiana Driver's License. Criminal Background check.

Working Conditions, Hazards, Physical Requirements: 
Evenings, Weekends, Working outdoors, working with challenging clients, flexible work schedule, possible exposure to communicable disease, office work, field community work. Standing for extended periods of time, lifting 20 pounds, bending and reaching. Ability to maintain assigned regular office hours, and sit for periods of time in an office or meeting environment; occasional travel. May require loading and unloading of materials for health Fairs and specific events.
