Specialty training Courses at the ymca

Our Y offers specialty training courses to help you become a certified or a training course to help you learn babysitting skills.

Babysitting Courses (11-18 year)

The Health and Safety Institute ASHI and MEDIC First Aid Child and Babysitting Safety (CABS) training program is intended primarily for teenagers (11yrs-18yrs) and others who are planning to provide babysitting services for young children and infants. The program includes instruction on the business of babysitting, proper supervision, basic care giving skills, and guidelines on how to recognize and handle problems that may occur. This program is not intended to meet any regulatory requirements for child care providers.

There are no prerequisites for taking the CABS program, but additional training in CPR, AED, and first aid is highly recommended.

The goal of this training program is to help students develop the knowledge, skills, and confidence to effectively supervise ad manage children in their care.

The Kokomo Family YMCA and American Safety & Health Institute have teamed up to provide a comprehensive CPR & Basic First Aid program. American Safety and Health Institute (ASHI) is a leading provider of basic and advanced emergency care and resuscitation training programs. ASHI training programs have been used to teach and certify emergency care providers in health care, business, industry and the general public since 1996.

ASHI’s resuscitation programs for basic and advanced life support conform to national standards and are based on the same scientific guidelines and treatment recommendations used by the American Heart Association (AHA) and the American Red Cross (ARC) for course development.
