This vibrant class is centered around creating an enjoyable and energetic atmosphere, encouraging participants to break a sweat while having fun.

The session starts with straightforward dance moves, allowing you to get comfortable and warm up your body. As the class progresses, you’ll dive into increasingly intricate choreography that keeps your heart rate elevated and challenges your coordination. With each beat, you’ll engage in a dynamic and invigorating experience that combines fitness with the joy of dance, ensuring a fantastic cardio workout that leaves you feeling accomplished and energized.

AOA GROUP FITNESS CLASSES

Our Y Active Older Adult fitness classes are designed to keep you moving and engaged, whether you’re a seasoned fitness enthusiast or just starting your journey to physical wellness. We begin to lose bone density, balance and coordination as we age. The good news is that there is something we can do about it! Strength training and creating a fitness regime can deter or prevent these issues from occurring. Our Active Older Adult and SilverSneakers classes will teach you how to build muscle strength, endurance and increase mobility. Everyday activities will become easier, posture will improve and you’ll look and feel great! From Chair Yoga to Line Dancing, classes are both on land and in water, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

AOA Activities and Events

It’s not just about exercise – we believe in fostering social connections and providing opportunities for fun and camaraderie. That’s why we offer engaging activities like Pickleball, where you can connect with peers and make lasting friendships while staying active. We also have Athletic Trainers onsite to help you with rehab, stretching or any other questions you may have. To combat the growing number of people suffering from high blood pressure the Kokomo Family YMCA has partnered with Commercial Howard to provide FREE Blood Pressure Screenings on Mondays and Thursdays (11am-2pm).

AQUATICS CENTER AND CLASSES

Low impact- High results! What would the Y be without water? Water exercise, adult swim lessons (it’s NEVER too late) and aquatics classes are some of the water-based activities you’ll find at the Y, where we believe if you can do it on land, you can do some version of it in the water! While building relationships, you will actively participate in low-impact cardio exercise good for both your heart and your mind. Together, with the rest of the class, you will achieve the results you can see. Join us in the pool and increase your joint flexibility, improve your circulation, burn calories, strengthen your muscles, and have fun. Join us for an aqua Zumba, Yoga, or one of our other classes today!

Myths About Falls

Falls Prevention Awareness Week is September 23-27. Falls are the leading cause of injury related ER visits for older adults, the major cause of hip fractures and responsible for more than half of fatal head injuries. Below, the National Council on Aging shares 10 myths related to older adult falls.

After exploring these myths, the Kokomo Family YMCA wants to remind you that we are here to help! Our Active Older Adults program is an evidence-based program that works to improve balance, muscle strength, flexibility and more. Click HERE for more info.
