Juneteenth is a federal holiday celebrated on June 19th. We recognize this day because, on June 19th, 1865, enslaved people in Galveston, Texas finally learned of their independence. This was more than two-and-a-half years after the Emancipation Proclamation, and months after the end of the American Civil War.

To celebrate, the Y invites you to learn more about this day of freedom! As the Kokomo Family YMCA honors Juneteenth, we are excited to share some great ways that you can celebrate!
